AN ORDINANCE OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION AMENDING ORDINANCE NO.
11000, THE ZONING ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA, AS
AMENDED, BY AMENDING ARTICLE 9, SECTION 906.15, ENTITLED "GENERAL
AND SUPPLEMENTARY REGULATIONS/PET HOTEL AS ACCESSORY USE;
DETAILED REQUIREMENTS," ESTABLISHING A PET HOTEL AS AN ACCESSORY
USE FOR PET STORES AND PET AND VETERINARY CLINICS; SUBJECT TO
LIMITATIONS AS SET FORTH; CONTAINING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE AND
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the Miami Planning Advisory Board, at its meeting of July 16, 2008, Item No. P.1,
following an advertised hearing, adopted Resolution No. PAB 08-027 by a vote of nine to zero (9-0),
RECOMMENDING APPROVAL of amending Zoning Ordinance No. 11000 as hereinafter set forth;
and
WHEREAS, the City Commission, after careful consideration of this matter deems it advisable
and in the best interest of the general welfare of the City of Miami and its citizens to amend its Zoning
Ordinance as hereinafter set forth;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Ordinance are adopted
by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. Ordinance No. 11000, the Zoning Ordinance of the City of Miami, Florida, as
amended, is amended in the following particulars:{1}
"ARTICLE 9. GENERAL AND SUPPLEMENTARY REGULATIONS
906.15. Pet hotel as accessory use; detailed requirements.
906.15.1. Definition.
A pet hotel shall be defined as temporary boarding accommodations for pets as accessory use for pet
stores or pet and veterinary clinics of more than 15,000 10,000 square feet in size. Boarding facilities
for five (5) or more animals as a principal use shall be considered an animal kennel as defined in
Article 25.

For the purposes of this zoning ordinance, a pet hotel shall be permitted as a customary accessory
use for commercial establishments dealing in the retail sales of pets and pet supplies, or pet and
veterinary clinics subject to the limitations herein.
1. A pet hotel use may be allowed as an accessory use only to pet and pet supply stores, or pet and
veterinary clinics having a minimum of 15,000 10,000 square feet.
2. A pet hotel use must be clearly incidental and subordinate to the primary use of the property
which is limited to pet sales and pet supply sales, or pet and veterinary clinics.
3. A pet hotel use may not exceed fifteen (15%) of the gross leaseable area of the establishment
providing the service.
4. A pet hotel component of the principal use must be completely enclosed and constructed,
maintained, and operated so that neither the sound nor smell of the animals being boarded is
discernable off the property.
906.15.3 Limitations on signs, display.
No signs or displays relating to such accessory use shall be visible from outside the building or from
any right-of-way.

Section 3. If any section, part of a section, paragraph, clause, phrase or word of this Ordinance is
declared invalid, the remaining provisions of this Ordinance shall not be affected.
Section 4. This Ordinance shall become effective thirty (30) days after final reading and adoption
thereof.{2}

{2} This Ordinance shall become effective as specified herein unless vetoed by the Mayor within ten
days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Ordinance, it shall become
effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission or upon the effective date
stated herein, whichever is later.
