HomeMy WebLinkAboutLegislationCity of Miami Legislation Resolution City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 08-01210 Final Action Date: A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, WITH ATTACHMENT(S), RATIFYING, APPROVING AND CONFIRMING THE CITY MANAGER'S ACCEPTANCE OF GRANT FUNDING, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $32,247, CONSISTING OF A GRANT FROM THE STATE OF FLORIDA, OFFICE OF THE ATTORNEY GENERAL, DIVISION OF VICTIM SERVICES AND CRIMINAL JUSTICE PROGRAMS, FOR THE 2008-2009 VICTIMS OF CRIME ACT GRANT; ALLOCATING THE CITY OF MIAMI'S REQUIRED MATCHING FUNDS, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $8,062, IN THE FORM OF IN -KIND SERVICES FROM THE CITY OF MIAMI POLICE DEPARTMENT, FOR A TOTAL GRANT ACCEPTANCE IN THE AMOUNT OF $40,309, FOR THE ENHANCEMENT OF THE QUALITY OF SERVICES TO CRIME VICTIMS; APPROPRIATING SAID FUNDS INTO SPECIAL REVENUE PROJECT ACCOUNT NO. 12000.191602.434000.0000.00000, FOR SAID PURPOSE; RATIFYING, APPROVING AND CONFIRMING THE CITY MANAGER'S EXECUTION OF THE GRANT AGREEMENT, IN SUBSTANTIALLY THE ATTACHED FORM; FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE ANY OTHER NECESSARY DOCUMENTS TO IMPLEMENT THE ACCEPTANCE OF AND ADMINISTRATION OF SAID GRANT. WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") was awarded a grant from the State of Florida, Office of. the Attorney General, Division of Victim Services and Criminal Justice Programs, to fund services provided to crime victims; and WHEREAS, pursuant to the grant, the City had to execute a Victims of Crime Act ("VOCA")Agreement ("Agreement"), in an amount not to exceed $32,247, for Fiscal Year 2008- 2009, to fund said services; and WHEREAS, the City's Department of Police will provide the required twenty-five percent (25%) match in an amount not to exceed $8,062, in the form of in -kind personnel services towards the salaries and necessary expenses for the operation of the VOCA Program; and WHEREAS, pursuant to grant stipulations: "No grant expenses for the period of October 1, 2008, through September 30, 2009, may be incurred until the Agreement has been signed by all parties;" and WHEREAS, funds from this grant will be used for the continued funding of a Victim's Advocate for the duration of one year to coordinate services for crime victims; and WHEREAS, the City Manager executed the Agreement to accept said grant for the appropriation of said award, subject to the City Commission's ratification; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, City of Miami Page 7 of 2 Printed On: 10/10/2008 File Number: 08-01210 FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The City Manager's acceptance of grant funding, in an amount not to exceed $32,247, consisting of a grant from the State of Florida, Office of the Attorney General, Division of Victim Services and Criminal Justice Programs, for the 2008-2009 VOCA Grant, is ratified, approved and confirmed. Section 3. The City's required matching funds, in an amount not to exceed $8,062, is allocated, in the form of in -kind services from the City's Department of Police, for a total grant acceptance in the amount of $40,309, for the enhancement of the quality of services to crime victims. Section 4. Said funds, are appropriated into Special Revenue Project Account No. 12000.191602.434000.0000.00000, for said purpose. Section 5. The City Manager's execution of the Agreement, in substantially the attached form, is ratified, approved and confirmed. Section 6. The City Manager is further authorized {1} to execute any other necessary documents to implement acceptance of and administration of said grant. Section 7. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.{2} APPROVED AS TO FORM AND CORRECTNESS: JULIE O. BRU. CITY ATTe NEY Footnotes: {1} The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City Charter and Code provisions. {2} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted.
