HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-08-0590City of Miami Legislation Resolution: R-08-0590 City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 08-01135 Final Action Date: 10/16/2008 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, WITH ATTACHMENT(S), AUTHORIZING THE ALLOCATION OF FUNDS, IN THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF $298,065, IN THE AMOUNTS AND TO THE AGENCIES AS SPECIFIED IN "EXHIBIT A," ATTACHED AND INCORPORATED, FOR PUBLIC SERVICES ACTIVITIES IN THE 34TH PROGRAM YEAR BEGINNING OCTOBER 1, 2008, ALLOCATING SAID FUNDS FROM THE MAYOR'S POVERTY INITIATIVE ACCOUNT; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE AGREEMENT(S), IN SUBSTANTIALLY THE ATTACHED FORM(S), WITH SAID AGENCIES, FOR SAID PURPOSE. WHEREAS, on February 14, 2008, a Request for Proposal was issued for agencies to provide public service activities for a one-year period with the option to extend such contract for an additional year, which would be contingent on the availability of funds, and the agencies having met their contractual obligations; and WHEREAS, due to decrease of available Community Development Block Grant funds, all Public Service agencies' allocations have been reduced; and WHEREAS, at the June 5, 2008, City Commission meeting, Commissioner Angel Gonzalez made a motion directing the City Manager to execute the necessary documents to fund social services agencies at the same level that they have been funded in the past years; and WHEREAS, also at the June 5, 2008, City Commission meeting, City Manager Pedro G. Hernandez stated on the record that dollars from the Mayor's Poverty Initiative Account would be used to cover the funding shortfall for the feeding programs; and WHEREAS, the Administration recommends the transfer of Mayor's Poverty Initiative funds, in the amount of $298,065, in the amounts and to the agencies as specified in Exhibit "A," attached and incorporated; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The allocation of funds, in the total amount of $298,065, in the amounts and to the agencies as specified in "Exhibit A," attached and incorporated, for public services activities, in the 34th Program Year beginning October 1, 2008, is authorized, with said funds allocated from the Mayor's Poverty Initiative Account. Section 3. The City Manager is authorized{1} to execute Agreement(s), in substantially the attached form(s), with said agencies, for said purpose. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.{2} Footnotes: {1} The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City Charter and Code provisions. {2} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten (10) calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
