At the Trust Board of Directors' meeting held on August 20, 2008, the Board approved the attached proposed general fund request for fiscal year ending September 30, 2009. BACKGROUND: The Liberty City Trust (the "Trust"), formerly known as the Model City Trust, was established in accordance with Ordinance 12859 to provide oversight and facilitate revitalization efforts and activities to be undertaken in the Liberty City Area. Homeownership is a major factor in the revitalization efforts of Liberty City and with the cooperation of the City of Miami, local developers, strategic partners and the residents, the Trust strive to maintain the historic and cultural integrity of Liberty City. To date, eleven (11) houses and one hundred thirty six (136) affordable rentals have been completed. There are several ongoing construction projects in process. The Trust hosts bi-monthly workshops to certify homebuyers for first-time homebuyer subsidies, as well as credit counseling. The Trust is committed to revitalizing key business corridors while working with City departments, residents and business owners to bring additional economic opportunities to the community. Through its Community Planning/Outreach Committee the Trust partnered with the Florida Department of Transportation hosted a public forum to educate residents on how the addition of express lanes and the Bus Rapid Transit service that will run from downtown to Fort Lauderdale will affect Liberty City. As a result of community activism, the decision to use reversible lanes was stopped. The Trust is dedicated to facilitating and supporting events that promote unity and community pride.
