HomeMy WebLinkAboutSummary FormAGENDA ITEM SUMMARY FORM FILE ID: 68-22 Date: AUG_2 2008 Requesting Department: POLICE Commission Meeting Date: 9 - 25 -08 District Impacted: ALL Type: ® Resolution ❑ Ordinance ❑ Emergency Ordinance ❑ Discussion Item ❑ Other Subject: FY 2008 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Purpose of Item: CA.3 It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached Resolution establishing a new special revenue fund entitled: "FY 2008 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program," authorizing the City Manager to accept said grant from the United States Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs in the amount of $195,848. A match in the amount of $20,691.40 is being provided by the City of Miami bringing the total appropriation to $216,539.40. A match is available from the Police Department's General Fund, Account No. 00001.191602.896000.0000.00000. Background Information: The police department plans to utilize the 2008 Justice Assistance Grant funds to purchase laptops for the Public Service Aide vehicles which will expand and improve operations by having PSA's able to assist and support officers in delivering police services to the public. PSA's assist officers with non -hazardous duties such as investigation and writing of vehicle accidents and issuance of traffic summons, as well as handling burglary and theft reports and supplementary missing persons and runaway juvenile incident reports. PSA's allow police officers more time to concentrate on the most urgent and critical needs for police services. In addition, the City of Miami's match will be utilized to cover the cost of three additional years of extended warranty for the laptops. Budget Impact Analysis No Is this item related to revenue?
