A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, WITH ATTACHMENT(S),
ESTABLISHING A NEW SPECIAL REVENUE PROJECT ENTITLED: "FY 2008
EDWARD BYRNE MEMORIAL JUSTICE ASSISTANCE GRANT (JAG)
PROGRAM," CONSISTING OF A GRANT AWARD FROM THE UNITED STATES
DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE, OFFICE OF JUSTICE PROGRAMS, BUREAU OF
JUSTICE ASSISTANCE, IN THE AMOUNT OF $195,848, TO EQUIP CITY OF
MIAMI POLICE DEPARTMENT PUBLIC SERVICE AIDE VEHICLES WITH MOBILE
COMPUTING SYSTEMS, INCLUDING THE PURCHASE OF LAPTOP
COMPUTERS AND WARRANTIES; AUTHORIZING THE ALLOCATION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI'S MATCHING FUNDS, IN THE AMOUNT OF $20,691.40, TO PAY
FOR A PORTION OF LAPTOP WARRANTIES, FROM THE GENERAL FUND,
ACCOUNT NO. 00001.191602.896000.0000.00000; AUTHORIZING THE CITY
MANAGER TO EXECUTE THE NECESSARY DOCUMENTS TO IMPLEMENT THE
ACCEPTANCE OF SAID GRANT AWARD, IN SUBSTANTIALLY THE ATTACHED
FORM, AND ANY OTHER NECESSARY DOCUMENTS IN ORDER TO COMPLY
WITH SAID GRANT AWARD.
WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") has been awarded a grant in the amount of
$195,848, to equip all Public Service Aide vehicles with mobile computing systems to expand and
enhance operations and increase safety of personnel and efficiency in the delivery of services;
and
WHEREAS, the grant award will provide for the purchase of sixty (60) laptop computers,
related equipment and software; and
WHEREAS, an initial one (1) year warranty is included in the purchase of each laptop, and
the City desires to purchase extended three year warranties for all sixty (60) laptops as best
practices to eliminate future computer repair costs;
WHEREAS, there are sufficient grant funds to purchase extended warranties for
approximately thirty five (35), but not all sixty (60), laptops; and
WHEREAS, City's matching funds in the amount of $20,691.40, will be utilized to purchase
the remaining number of extended three year warranties needed, to wit: for approximately twenty
four (24) laptops;
WHEREAS, said grant is awarded for a period of four years, beginning October 1, 2007,
through September 30, 2011; and
WHEREAS, it is appropriate for the City Manager to accept said grant and to establish a
special revenue fund for the appropriation of said grant award;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted
by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The following Special Revenue Project is established and resources are
appropriated as described below:

Section 3. The City Manager is authorized{1} to execute the necessary documents to
implement the acceptance of said grant award, in substantially the attached form, and any other
necessary documents in order to comply with said grant award
Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature
of the Mayor.{2}

Footnotes:
{1} The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be
imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City
Charter and Code provisions.
{2} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten
calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it
shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
