Pamela E Burns Assistant City Clerk DATE SUBJECT REFERENCES ENCLOSURES September 4, 2008 FILE Results Overtown Advisory Board/ Overtown Community Oversight Board Election 1 Enclosed please find the certified results of the election for five (5) seats of the Overtown Advisory Board/Overtown Community Oversight Board (OAB/OCOB) The election, originally scheduled for August 19, 2008 was rescheduled to August 28, 2008 due to Tropical Storm Fay Three candidates, Brenda Dawson, Ceciha Stewart and Bettye Stillman were elected outright, receiving the highest number of votes Three other candidates, Joyce Floyd, Lynette Gonzalez and Deana Jordan entered a 3-way-tie for the remaining two seats Per section 9 of the Charter of the City of Miami and per chapter 100 181 of the Florida Statutes, should two or more persons receive an equal and highest number of votes for the same office, such persons shall draw lots to determine who shall be elected to the office The Office of the City Clerk conducted the drawing of the lots on September 4th, 2008 with the candidates Joyce Floyd and Deana Jordan were seated to the remaining two elected member seats The full list of candidates elected to the OAB/OCOB is as follows Brenda Dawson Cecilia Stewart Bettye Stillman Joyce Floyd Deana Jordan Election results are scheduled for ratification on the September 11, 2008 Commission Meeting PEB dsd c Pedro G Hernandez City Manager Julie 0 Bru City Attorney Olga Ramirez Seijas, Assistant City Attorney Gail A Dotson, Assistant City Attorney Loren Darnel Overtown NET Administrator Stephanie Van Vark Staff Services Assistant CERTIFICATION AND DECLARATION Of ELECTION RESULTS FOR THE OVERTOWN ADVISORY BOARD/ OVERTOWN COMMUNITY OVERSIGHT BOARD ELECTION STATE OF FLORIDA COUNTY OF MIAMI-DADE CITY OF MIAMI I, PAMELA E BURNS, Assistant City Clerk of the City of Miami, Florida, do hereby certify that the necessary steps were taken pursuant to City of Miami Code Section 2-1052 in connection with the conduct of the election to fill five (5) seats of the Overtown Advisory Board/Overtown Community Oversight Board (hereafter OAB/OCOB) held on August 28, 2008 The election was held from 2 00 P M until 6 00 P M at the City of Miami Overtown Neighborhood Enhancement Team (NET) office located at 1490 N W 3 Avenue, Suite 111, Miami, Flonda On August 12, 2008, from 2 00 P M until 3 30 P M an OAB/OCOB Candidate Qualifying Meeting was conducted to determine the eligibility of individuals that submitted applications to qualify as candidates to be seated as OAB/OCOB elected members II Due to Tropical Storm Fay, the August 19, 2008 OAB/OCOB election was rescheduled to August 28, 2008 The election was conducted from 2 00 P M until 6 00 P M At the close of the election, the ballot box seal # 0017173 was first deemed intact, and then broken by myself in order to tabulate the ballots III A total of 64 ballots were cast in said election and a total of 64 ballots were counted Zero (0) ballots were voided because of over votes Iv Qualified voters were allowed to vote for a minimum of one (1) and a maximum of five (5) candidates of their choice v I further certify and declare that the results of the OAB/OCOB Election held on August 28, 2008 are as follows Candidate Name Number of Votes Brenda Dawson 32 Cecilia Stewart 28 Bettye Stillman 21 Joyce Floyd 18 Lynette Gonzalez 18 Deana Jordan 18 Pamela Ferguson 16 Derek Cole 15 Charles Cutler 15 Husam-Iddm Latif 9 Keith Ivory 8 Belal Abu 7 vI Therefore, I certify that Brenda Dawson, Cecilia Stewart and Bettye Stillman received the greatest number of votes and were elected outright as members of the OAB/OCOB, while three (3) candidates, Joyce Floyd, Lynette Gonzalez, and Deana Jordan, entered a 3-way tie for the remaining two (2) seats via Per section 9 of the Charter of the City of Miami and per chapter 100 181 of the Flonda Statutes, should two or more persons receive an equal and highest number of votes for the same office, such persons shall draw lots to determine who shall be elected to the office The Office of the City Clerk scheduled the drawing of the lots with the candidates for September 4th, 2008 at the Overtown NET Office at 8 00 A M vIIi At 8 00 A M on September 4, 2008 at the Overtown NET Office Joyce Floyd, Lynette Gonzalez, and Deana Jordan assembled to draw lots in the presence of myself, Assistant City Attorney Gail A Dotson, Elections Coordinator Dwight Dame, and Staff Services Assistant Stephanie Van Vark -
