HomeMy WebLinkAboutLegislationCity of Miami Legislation Resolution City Hail 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 08-00962 Final Action Date: A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ACCEPT A GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF $480,000, FROM THE CHILDREN'S TRUST, FOR THE CONTINUATION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI-TRUANCY REDUCTION PROGRAM DURING THE 2008-2009 SCHOOL YEAR; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE THE NECESSARY DOCUMENTS TO IMPLEMENT THE ACCEPTANCE OF SAID GRANT AWARD. WHEREAS, the City of Miami's ("City") Office of the Mayor requested funding from The Children's Trust, through its service partnership program, to continue the implementation of the City -Truancy Reduction Program; and WHEREAS, the City -Truancy Reduction Program is comprised of a cooperative effort between the City's Office of the Mayor, Miami -Dade County Public Schools, the 11th Circuit Court and five (5) community -based organizations for its successful implementation; and WHEREAS, the goals of the City -Truancy Reduction Program are to join efforts to connect the home, school and community to ensure that children acquire the necessary skills for success in their adult life, so that they can be able to compete in a global economy; and WHEREAS, the City was awarded a grant in the amount of $500,000, pursuant to said request; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Resolution No. 06-01043, adopted June 22, 2006, the City Commission authorized the execution of an award package, including a Grant Award Agreement, to accept the grant; and WHEREAS, the City has been awarded another grant in the amount of $480,000, to continue providing said services; and WHEREAS, the City must execute an award package, including a Grant Award Agreement, to accept the grant; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble of this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The City Manager is authorized{1} to accept a grant, in the amount of $480,000, from the Children's Trust, for the continuation of the City -Truancy Reduction Program during the 2008-2009 school year. Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.{2} APPROVED AS TO FORM AND CORRECTNESS: JULIE O. BRU CITY ATTORNEY Footnotes: {1} The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City Charter and Code provisions. {2} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted.
