A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION NAMING THE BASEBALL
FIELD AT CURTIS PARK, "THE ALFONSITO RODRIGUEZ BASEBALL FIELD," IN
HONOR OF ALFONSITO RODRIGUEZ, WHO FOUNDED AND OPERATED A
BASEBALL ACADEMY CALLED "ACADEMIA LATINO AMERICA DE BASEBALL,"
FOR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES IN THE COMMUNITY.
WHEREAS, in 1963, Mr. Alfonsito Rodiguez's passion for teaching children the art of baseball
became a reality when he opened Academia Latino America De Baseball ("Academia") at Curtis Park;
and
WHEREAS, Curtis Park and the Academia became a center of life throughout the years for
thousands of children between the ages of five to eighteen and their families by creating a baseball
league and other recreational activities; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Rodriguez died at seventy-six and the City of Miami wishes to honor his service
to the community by naming Curtis Park's baseball field in his honor;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted
by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The Curtis Park Baseball Field is hereby named "The Alfonsito Rodriguez Baseball
Field," in honor of Alfonsito Rodriguez, who founded and operated a baseball academy called
"Academia Latino De Baseball," for children and families in the community.
Section 2. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and
signature of the Mayor.{1}
Footnotes:
{1} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar
days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become
effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
