LAUREN "LOLO" RESKIN (26) is a Miami native who comes from a long line of
professional musicians. After spending six years in corporate music retail, she
opened Sweat Records - Miami's best independent music store and organic
coffee house - in March of 2005. It has since received numerous awards and
accolades and become a pillar of Miami's music scene. In addition to running
Sweat, Lauren produces concerts and events, DJs, manages bands, compiles a
weekly comprehensive local show/event listing, edits a website and generally
promotes the South Florida cultural landscape however possible. She also
serves on the Florida Chapter Board of the Recording Academy, was one of
Ocean Drive's "Almost Famous" for 2007, and was featured in the 2008 "Miami
Expressions" tourism campaign.
ABOUT SWEAT RECORDS
SWEAT RECORDS is Miami's best indie music shop and organic coffee house,
located next door to Miami's legendary Churchill's Pub (est.1979. Initially opened
in March 2005 by Lauren Reskin and Sara Yousuf, two best friends dedicated to
Miami's colorful scene, Sweat Records ushered in a new era of growth and
activity in underground Miami.
Sweat survived it's first location being destroyed by Hurricane Wilma in October
2005, held steady for a while in a small warehouse in the back of Churchill's, and
is now back and better than ever in an expanded and fully -stocked new
storefront. Sweat's third location brought the addition of a full -service organic
coffee counter, wi-fi lounge and multi -purpose event space.
Sweat sells a wide variety of CDs, LPs, DVDs, magazines, books, vinyl toys,
local art and music, as well as a full range of yummy tea and coffee beverages.
Everything has been sourced to be organic and fair-trade whenever possible and
all cups, napkins, etc. are recycled.
Additionally, Sweat continues to put on frequent local and national concerts and
host a wide variety of in-store events and other random cultural happenings. In
January of 2008, Sweat Records acquired local green boutique and clothing
exchange RAG*TRADE (nine blocks away at 4600 NE 2nd Ave.) as a perfect new
compliment to the Sweat retail family.
