Subject: Authorization for the City Manager to enter into a contract for the creation of a statue honoring
Julia Tuttle.
Purpose of Item:
A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, AUTHORIZING THE CITY
MANAGER TO NEGOTIATE AND 'ExECUTEAN AGREEMENT, BETWEEN THE CITY OF
MIAMI AND JONAH HENDRICKSON SCULPTURE STUDIO, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO
EXCEED $200,000, FOR THE CREATION OF A STATUE HONORING JULIA TUTTLE, TO BE
PLACED ON THE MIAMI RIVER WALK; ALLOCATING FUNDS FROM AN ACCOUNT TO
BE DETERMINED BY THE CITY MANAGER FOR SAID PURPOSE.
Background Information:
On February 24, 2005 the City Commission unanimously adopted a motion supporting the concept of
placing a statue of Julia Tuttle in an appropriate location near her home; and further stating that the
majority of the fundraising should come from private fundraising efforts. The Julia Tuttle Committee
has since raised the total amount of $196,350 from both public and private donations for the creation
and maintenance of a statue of Julia Tuttle to be placed on the Miami Riverwalk.
