Page 1 of 1 Agenda Item Summary Form (Continued — Industrial Washers and Dryers) Background Information: Industry experts have determined that bunker gear tends to collect bi-products of combustion that are a health risk to firefighters and individuals that may come into contact with soiled/contaminated bunker gear. To reduce the health risks, the National Fire Protection Association has established Standard 1851, which details that bunker gear should be washed routinely in specially designated machines to allow proper cleaning and to prevent cross contamination. The Standard also requires that bunker gear be dried in a way that prevents damage to the gear due to direct sunlight or excessive heat. On January 13, 2008, the Purchasing Department issued Invitation for Bid No. 68096. As required by the Procurement Code, bids were due and two (2) were received on February 4, 2008, Commercial Laundry Equipment Co., Inc., submitted the lowest responsive and responsible bid for Group A - Industrial Washers, and Ram'd Air Gear Dryer, Ltd., submitted the lowest and responsive bid for Group B - Industrial Dryers, and are therefore recommended for the award.
