Director-- Chief 4r Cc: City Manager 1 of 2 Subject: Ordinance amending Chapter 50 of the City of Miami Code, entitled "Ships, Vessels, and Waterways" Background: Chapter 50 of the City of Miami Code provides regulations pertaining to the safe operation, mooring and navigation of vessels transiting in City waters; control of marine sewage discharge from vessels; removal of abandoned and derelict vessels, and the administration and operation of City owned and operated marinas and mooring facilities. Chapter 50 has not been revised or updated in many years and many definitions and sections have become obsolete or in need of modification. These changes are necessary to provide consistency with current federal and state maritime laws and regulations, as well as with current City marine facility rules and regulations. Additionally, with the construction of new City mooring fields in the near future, it is necessary to adopt regulations concerning the operation and administration of these new facilities. The City of Miami Waterfront Advisory Board and the Miami River Commission have both recommended approval of the attached ordinance. Paae 2 of 2
