Thompson City Clerk Date: April 18, 2008 Subject: Equal Opportunity Advisory Board References: May 8, 2008 Agenda Enclosures: List of members The Equal Opportunity Advisory Board was created to review and recommend to the City Commission the adoption of amendments/revisions to the City's affirmative action plan. The board also reviews employment policies and practices of the City and makes recommendations to the Department of Employee Relations. Ten (10) appointments are required at this time: • Chair Sanchez has two (2) nominations for seats currently held by: 1. Rebeca Alvarez -Mena, incumbent, whose term expired July 12, 2007 and who has exceeded the number of allowed absences (8 absences in 2007), would require a 4/5ths waiver of attendance.* 2. Sam Mason, incumbent, whose term expires May 9, 2008; further, he has served since 2001 and would require a 5/5ths term waiver. • Vice Chair Spence -Jones has one (1) nomination for a seat currently held by: 1. Charles Flowers, incumbent, whose term expires May 9, 2008. • Commissioner Gonzalez has one (1) nomination: 1. Vacancy (due to the resignation of Albena Sumner).* • Commissioner Sarnoff has one (1) nomination for seat currently held by: 1. Vacancy (due to the resignation of Yvonne McDonald) • Commissioner Regalado has two (2) nominations seats currently held by: 1. Aurelus Dorvil, incumbent, whose term expires May 9, 2008. 2. Marlene Sanchez, incumbent, whose term expires May 9, 2008, and who has exceeded the number of allowed absences (4 in 2007) and would require a 4/5ths waiver of attendance. • The Commission -at -Large has three (3) confirmations: 1. Maria Bao as the representative of AFSCME Local 1907. 2. Viona Brown as the representative of the Fraternal Order of Police. 3. James Dixon as the representative of AFSCME Local 871. For your convenience, we are including a copy of the current membership of said board. By copy of this memorandum, we are requesting the Agenda Office to place this issue on the May 8, 2008 Commission agenda. *This matter was deferred from the June 14, 2007, September 11, 2007, October 11, 2007, November 9, 2007, January 10, 2008, February 14, 2008, and March 13, 2008 Commission meetings and April 10, 2008 Commission meetings.
