CLERK OF THE BOARD Amended Of COUNTY COMM4SSBb DADE COUNTY, Fk041113 Agenda Item No. 55(S) 6-20-06 RESOLUTION CODESIGNATING AND URGING THE CITY OF MIAMI TO CODESIGNATE NW 17TH AVENUE FROM NW 62ND STREET TO NW 95th STREET AS REVEREND DR. GEORGE E. McRAE AVENUE WHEREAS, this Board has . conducted a public hearing to consider this codesignation and to urge the City of Miami to codesignate NW 17t Avenue from NW 62nd Street to NW 95th Street as Reverend Dr. George E. McRae Avenue; and WHEREAS, Reverend Dr. George • E. -McRae was born in Palatka, Florida on August 13, 1941; and WHEREAS, Reverend Dr. George E. McRae has a Doctor of Ministry Degree, Colombia Theological Seminary, Atlanta Georgia; Master of Divinity Degree, The Interdenominational Theological Center, Atlanta Georgia; Bachelor of Arts Degree, Bethune-Cookman College, Daytona Beach, Florida, and Diploma Central Academy High School. Palatka, Florida; and WHEREAS, Reverend Dr. George E. McRae, has served as Pastor at various Baptist Churches since 1968, and is presently Pastor at Mount Tabor Missionary Baptist Church, Miami, Florida; and WHEREAS, Reverend Dr. George E. McRae, he has been affiliated with various church organizations, including: The National Baptist Convention USA Inc. as a Amended Agenda Item No_ 5(S) Page No. 2 Member; The Horida General Baptist Congress of Christian Education as Dean; and The Florida Baptist Convention in which he currently serves as President; and WHEREAS, Reverend Dr. George E. McRae has been commended, honored and presented with numerous awards, including: a Proclamation from Miami -Dade County for his dedicated service to the community; a Distinguished Service Citation = Honored as Most Outstanding Pastor; The Miami- Herald Charles Whited Spirit of Excellence Award; a Distinguished Service Citation from the Office of the Chief of Police, City of Daytona Beach, Florida; a Community Service Award from the Miami Chapter of Justice Unity Generosity -Service Inc.; a Letter of Commendation for the Establishments of MOVERS, Inc.; a Commendation from Governor Lawton Chiles of the State of Florida; an Award for the Fight Against HIV/AIDS Virus from Congressman Kendrick Meek; Recognition from Representative Fredrica S. Wilson for being a Pioneer in Education for the Fight Against the HIV/AIDS Virus in the Black community; and a Certificate of Commendation from Kathrine Fernandez Rundle State Attorney of the 11th Judicial Circuit of Florida; and WHEREAS, Congressman Kendrick B. -!leek joins the constituents in recommending this codesignation to pay tribute to this magnificent Servant of God; Senator Frederica S. Wilson supports this codesignation that would serve to demonstrate the community's high regard for Reverend McRae and his many local contributions; State Representative — District 109 Dorothy Bendross-Mindingall supports this codesignation for Reverend Dr. George E. McRae not only because he is deserving of this honor, but also holds a special place in the hearts of so many of our constituents and has been a strong pillar for our communities; and Amended Agenda Item No. 5(S) Page No. 3 WHEREAS, this Board would like to honor Reverend Dr. George E. McRae with this codesignation for being a strong pillar in our communities; and WHEREAS, this proposed codesignation is located in County Commission District 2, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE.COUNTY, FLORIDA, that: Section 1. This Board finds that Reverend Dr. George E. McRae has made a direct, significant lifetime contribution to this community. Section 2. By three -fifths of the Board Members present, this Board approves the codesignation of NW 17`h Avenue from NW 62nd Street to NW 95th Street as Reverend Dr. George E. McRae and urges the City of Miami to approve this codesignation. Section 3. The Clerk of the Board is hereby directed to transmit a certified copy of this resolution to the Mayor of the City of Miami, the Board of Commissioners of the City of Miami, the Manager of the City of Miami, the United States Postal Service, the Traffic Signals and Signs Division of the Pulie Works Department and Land Development Division of the Public Works Department, the Miami -Dade Police Department, and the Miami -Dade Fire Rescue Department. The foregoing resolution was sponsored by Commissioner Dorrin D. Rolle and offered by Commissioner Dorrin D. Rolle , who moved its adoption. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Dennis C.
