Director Chief '—"` City Manager �.�-----�- 3t t.458 Page i of TOTAL P.03 Background Information: (continued) The United States Department of Homeland Security, through the State of Florida Division of Emergency Management, has sub -granted the Urban Area Security Initiative ("UASI")Grant Program FY 2007 to the City of Miami and its contiguous counties, Miami -Dade and Monroe, and the City of Hialeah in the amount of $11,620,600. This program targets homeland security funding to "high threat" urban areas in order to prevent, respond to, and recover from threats or acts of terrorism and other disasters of natural or man-made origin. It is now appropriate to accept said grant award, establish a special revenue fund, and appropriate the said grant award therein for this fiscal year. In addition, the City Commission authorizes the City Manager to execute Memoranda of Agreements with contiguous counties, Miami -Dade and. Monroe, and the City of Hialeah, setting forth the parties' responsibilities in connection with the development and support of the UASI Grant Program FY 2007 administered by the City of Miami's Department of Fire -Rescue; contingent upon funding of said project being secured in the form of Grants from the United States Department of Homeland Security, passed through the State of Florida Division of Emergency Management.
