A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION STRONGLY URGING
GOVERNOR CHARLIE CRIST AND THE MEMBERS OF THE FLORIDA
LEGISLATURE TO SUPPORT HOUSE BILL 369 ENTITLED "DRIVING UNDER
THE INFLUENCE ("DUI")" AND COMPANION SENATE BILL 456 ENTITLED
"IGNITION INTERLOCK DEVICE/DUI, BEING PRESENTED DURING THE 2008
LEGISLATIVE SESSION; DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT A COPY
OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE OFFICIALS DESIGNATED HEREIN.
WHEREAS, the Miami City Commission and the City of Miami ("City") Department of Police is
committed to improving law enforcement throughout the City; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission recognizes and supports the efforts of agencies working
together in a cooperative effort to enhance public safety in the City; and
WHEREAS, the City and the member police agencies of the Miami -Dade County Association of
Chiefs of Police have entered into mutual -aid agreements reaffirming their commitment to working
together in a cooperative matter, and
WHEREAS, the City encourages using innovative crime fighting strategies, state-of-the-art
technologies, and comprehensive legislation and policies; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission supports House Bill 369 entitled "Driving Under the Influence
("DUI") (2008)" and the companion Senate Bill 456 entitled "Ignition Interlock Device/DUI," that
requires ignition interlock devices for a specified period after first conviction of certain offenses,
revises provisions relating to the period for which ignition interlock devices may be required for second
convictions of certain offenses, and reduces the maximum permissible blood alcohol level at which
ignition interlock devices will allow a vehicle to start;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted
by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The Miami City Commission strongly urges Governor Charlie Crist and the members
of the Florida Legislature to support House Bill 369 entitled "Driving under the Influence and
companion Senate Bill 456 entitled "Ignition Interlock Device/DUI, being presented during the 2008
legislative session.
Section 3. The City Clerk is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Governor Charlie
Crist, the President of the Senate Ken Pruitt, the Speaker of the House Marco Rubio and all the

members of the Florida Legislature.
Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature
of the Mayor.{1 }

{1 } If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar days
from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become
effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission
