HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-08-0166City of Miami Legislation Resolution: R-08-0166 City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 08-00287 Final Action Date: 3/27/2008 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, WITH ATTACHMENT(S), ESTABLISHING A NEW SPECIAL REVENUE FUND ENTITLED: "FISCAL YEAR 2008-2009 VIOLENCE INTERVENTION PROJECT" TO ACCEPT AND APPROPRIATE A GRANT FUNDED BY THE CHILDREN'S TRUST AND ADMINISTERED BY LEAD AGENCY AND FISCAL AGENT, COMMUNITIES IN SCHOOLS, INC., IN THE AMOUNT OF $26,764.80, TO PROVIDE THE GANG RESISTANCE EDUCATION AND TRAINING PROGRAM FOR THE VIOLENCE INTERVENTION PROJECT, FOR THE GANG RESISTANCE EDUCATION AND TRAINING PROGRAM; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ACCEPT SAID GRANT AND TO EXECUTE A MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING, IN SUBSTANTIALLY THE ATTACHED FORM ("MOU"), AND ANY OTHER NECESSARY DOCUMENTS, IN A FORM ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY ATTORNEY, TO ACCEPT SAID GRANT AND TO IMPLEMENT AND COMPLY WITH SAID MOU FOR SAID PURPOSES. WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") has a strong interest in providing Gang Resistance Education and Training ("GREAT") Program to elementary schools in the Little Haiti neighborhood of the City; and WHEREAS, Communities In Schools Inc., as lead agency and fiscal agent (the "Lead Agency and Fiscal Agent"), submitted a Violence Intervention Project (the "VIP") application to The Children's Trust (the "Trust") for the GREAT Program in connection with the Trust's Child Murder and Youth Violence Prevention Initiative; and WHEREAS, said grant is awarded for a period of twelve (12) months, beginning February 1, 2008, through January 31, 2009; and WHEREAS, the City through its Department of Police's Juvenile Investigations Unit was selected by the Trust and the Lead Agency and Fiscal Agent to provide the GREAT program for the VIP Project to 300 elementary youth in Little Haiti; and WHEREAS, the City, under a Memorandum of Understanding ("MOU") with the Lead Agency and Fiscal Agent, in substantially the attached form, will be paid Twenty -Six Thousand, Seven Hundred and Sixty -Four Dollars and Eighty Cents ($26,764.80), to provide the GREAT Program for the VIP Project; and WHEREAS, the Police Department Juvenile Investigation Unit has determined that it does not presently need any matching funds or in -kind services to provide the GREAT Program, but the Department will return to the City Commission for approval if any matching funds or in -kind services become necessary for the Department to provide during the grant award period; City of Miami Page 1 of 2 File Id: 08-00287 (Version: 2) Printed On: 4/28/2017 File Number: 08-00287 Enactment Number: R-08-0166 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1 The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The following new Special Revenue Fund is established and resources are accepted and appropriated as described below: FUND TITLE: Fiscal Year 2008-2009 Violence Intervention Project RESOURCES: Children's Trust through Communities $26,764.80 In Schools, Inc. as Lead Agency and Fiscal Agent APPROPRIATIONS: GREAT Program for VIP Project $26,764.80 Section 3. The City Manager is authorized{1} to execute a MOU, in substantially the attached form, and any other necessary documents, in a form acceptable to the City Attorney, to accept said grant and to implement and comply with said MOU for said purposes. Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.{2} Footnotes: {1} The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City Charter and Code provisions. {2} If the mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
