SUPPORTED EMPLOYMENT GUIDELINES

IEP Meeting at age 16:
• Section VIl Transition Statement should address post school adult
living and employment outcomes.
• Students and parents will be informed about programs available when
the student reaches 18. Student's legal status must be discussed
before post secondary options are presented.
• Parents should be given information about obtaining legal status if it is
needed. The Social Worker working in TMH programs will assist
parents if necessary.
• Student should have a complete psychological re-evaluation, including
IQ and a Vocational Assessment and Interest Inventory.
• Mobility and Transportation should be discussed (i.e. STS, metro,
parents/guardians/family members).
IEP Meeting at age 18:
• Teachers will make recommendations about vocational options based
on their expertise in working with the students. This should have been
on going dialogue with parent/guardian and student over the past two
IEP's especially when addressing the transition section and goals for
post school adult living and employment.
• Team will review student's performance, experiences, and develop a
Transition Plan for post school outcomes. The Team will determine
which of the previously discussed vocational options is appropriate for
the student.
• Candidates who are selected for agency placement will be referred to
District Staffing Specialist from the Division for the Mentally
Handicapped and Physically Impaired.

IEP Meeting for Supported Employment Candidates
Participants:
• Student
• Parents/Guardian
• LEA
• Teacher
• General Education Teacher
• RegionTransition Support Teacher
• Region Transition Counselor
• Social Worker (TMH Team)
• Support Coordinator from APD or Med Waiver Counselor,
if student has one assigned to them
• Job Coach
The Program will be explained to the parent/guardian and students.
• The Parent/Guardian will sign an agreement that states they
understand their responsibilities in regards to this option
• The student will sign an agreement that states his/her responsibilities.
o The student must have documented citizenship or legal status
o The student must have a Florida identification card
o The student must have a social security card
o The student should apply for STS (special transportation
services), optional
The IEP Team will develop goals and benchmarks based on the student's
strengths, limitations, and interests in careers.
• A Career Profile Form will be completed.

Job Coaches Responsibilities:
• Job screening through interviews and informal assessments
• Finding suitable employment opportunities
• Assist student with applying and interviewing for a position
• Training students at the job site
• Providing on -going support to student to maintain the job
• Formally evaluating students, provide letter grades for teachers
on the following skills.
• Being on time
• Appearance/dress appropriately
• Follows directions
• Behaviors (appropriate interpersonal interactions with fellow
workers.
• Redirects easily
Note: Students will be assigned the state course code for Supported
Competitive Employment Course #7980150.
