Grant Application - Dinner Key Seaplane Channel Marker Replacement Background: The existing single -piling structure marking the entrance to the Seaplane Channel has been destroyed, creating a hazard to navigation. The former day marker will be replaced with a four -piling solar powered light station, consisting of a cluster of four pilings braced together; aluminum access ladder; wooden platform; beacon light; batteries; solar charging panel; and day marker signs. This structure will be much better suited to withstand harsh marine conditions and accidental collisions than the previous structure. The City entered into separate easement agreements with the Biscayne Bay Yacht Club and the Coral Reef Yacht Club, which easements required that each club contribute up to 50% of the cost of a lighted navigation marker at the end of the Seaplane Channel. The City has requested the Clubs install a four piling light station in lieu of a single piling lighted navigation marker due to its greater stability. Page 2 of 2
