PROJECT DESCRIPTION & LOCATION / SCOPE OF WORK & SPECIFICATIONS
PREPARED FEBRUARY 25, 2008
Project Description:
Replacement of one (1) City -maintained channel marker at the Dinner Key Seaplane Channel, located
at Dinner Key, Miami. The existing structure has been knocked down, and is in need of replacement.
The City plans to replace the former single piling day marker with a four -piling solar powered light
station, consisting of a cluster of four pilings braced together; aluminum access ladder; wooden
platform; beacon light; batteries; solar charging panel; and day marker signs.
The City of Miami maintains aids to navigation for two public channels connecting the Atlantic
Intracoastal Waterway (AICW) and the Dinner Key area of Coconut Grove, in Miami. These channels
(known as The Seaplane Channel and Brerman's Channel) service thousands of transient and local
vessels annually from the area's several wet slip and dry storage marinas to and from the AICW. The
City -maintained day markers and light platforms are crucial to the safe navigation of these vessels to
and from the AICW.
Project Location:
The channel marker platform is to be located in Biscayne Bay just to the south and east of Dinner Key
Marina, which is located at Statute Mile 1095 of the FAICW (geographic coordinates 25.44N /
