SEMINOLE DINGHY DOCK IMPROVEMENTS — PHASE II
PREPARED FEBRUARY 25, 2008
Project Description:
The Seminole Public Dinghy Dock was completely rebuilt in 2005 with the assistance of F.I.N.D.
grant funding. The new structure consists of five sections of wooden floating dock measuring
twenty feet in length by eight feet in width. Public demand for the Dinghy Dock is high, and with
the City's planned Dinner Key Mooring Facility scheduled to come on line in September 2008 it is
anticipated that available space will not be sufficient to meet additional needs from Mooring Field
customers.
This project entails the reconfiguration of the existing 100 linear feet dock to accommodate the
addition of 120 linear feet of new floating dock, in the same location. The new dock will be
identical to the recently replaced floating dock, and will again be fabricated by City staff to
conserve costs.
Project Location:
The Seminole Public Dinghy Dock is sited adjacent to the City's Dinner Key Marina, located in
Biscayne Bay in Coconut Grove. The facility's physical address is 3400 Pan American Drive,
Miami, FL 33133.
Scope of Work & Specifications:
The project consists of retaining engineering & permitting services to prepare construction
drawings and permit modifications; procurement of lumber, hardware, and other materials needed
to construct six (6) additional wooden floating dock sections; reconfiguration of the existing docks
to accommodate the additional docks; and installation of twelve (12) greenheart piling and
reattachment of access gangway.
Project Cost:
The City shall contract with a professional engineering firm for the preparation of design plans and
acquisition of permit modifications & exemptions; and with a licensed marine contractor for
reconfiguration of the existing floating docks, attachment of new docks and gangway, and driving
of twelve new piling and eight existing piling to secure the docks. City staff will construct the new
dock sections in-house, as was done with the initial replacement project.
