Purpose of Item:
Resolution Authorizing the City Manager to accept a grant from the Florida Developmental
Disabilities Council, Inc.(FDDC), in the amount of $10,000 and further appropriating and establishing
a new Special Revenue Fund entitled "City of Miami Department of Parks and Recreation, Programs
For Persons with Disabilities, Project SEARCH Miami" for the purpose of funding travel and program
related expenses to attend orientation/training sessions and purchase materials and equipment

PURPOSE OF ITEM:
This program is a one year school -to -work transition program to be hosted at the City
providing job training on an annual basis for youths with disabilities 18-22 years of age.
The Resolution further authorizing the City Manager to execute the necessary documents
to accept said grant.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The Department of Parks and Recreation through the Division of Programs for Persons
with Disabilities will be coordinating the implementation of a new program called Project
SEARCH Miami. The FDDC has granted the City of Miami $10,000 in funding and the
designation for being one of five project SEARCH pilot sites for the purpose of
replicating his national acclaimed program in the State of Florida. The program will be
managed by the City with the collaboration of several local agencies that together will
provide the support to implement this program. The collaborative is comprised of 1) the
City of Miami, Department of Parks and Recreation, 2) Miami -Dade County Public
Schools (MDCPS), and 3) the Miami -Dade Office (Area VI) of the Florida Department
of Education, Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR). The program is a one year
school -to -work transition program to be hosted at the City of Miami on an annual basis
for youths with disabilities 18-22 years of age whose goal is competitive employment.
This is a companion item to the cooperative interagency agreement.
