Subject: Resolution Authorizing The City Manager to Enter Into A Cooperative InterAgency
Agreement for Implementation of Project SEARCH Miami.
Purpose of Item:
Resolution authorizing the City Manager to enter into a Cooperative Interagency Agreement, in
substantial the attached form, to implement Project SEARCH Miami. This program is a one year
school -to -work transition program to be hosted at the City of Miami on an annual basis for youths
with disabilities 18-22 years of age whose goal is competitive employment.

Background Information:
The Department of Parks and Recreation thru the Division of Programs for Persons with Disabilities
will be coordinating the implementation of a new program called Project SEARCH Miami. The
Florida Development Disabilities Council has granted the City of Miami $10,000 in funding and the
designation of being one of five Project SEARCH pilot sites for the purpose of replicating this
national acclaimed program in the State of Florida.

PROJECT SEARCH MIAMI
COOPERATIVE INTERAGENCY AGREEMENT

PURPOSE OF ITEM:
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The program will be managed by the City with the collaboration of several local agencies
that together will provide the support to implement this program. The collaborative is
comprised of 1) the City of Miami, Department of Parks and Recreation (City), 2)
Miami -Dade County Public Schools (MDCPS), and 3) the Miami -Dade Office (Area VI)
of the Florida Department of Education, Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR).
In general, the responsibilities for each of the partners in this collaborative are as follows:
1) The City will be the business host site at the Miami Riverside Center where
participants will be placed in different departments (work sites) to be instructed in
marketable work and social skills with the goal of gainful employment. Classroom and
office space for the Project SEARCH Miami collaborative staff and participant will be
provided by the City. In addition, the City will provide thru the Parks and Recreation
Department staff and/or thru a separate contract with an agency, job coaching and job
development services to participants.
2) MDCPS will recruit qualified students, provide the teacher, teacher's aide, materials
and transportation. 3) DVR will provide support to participants thru their programs to
assist in meeting the employment goal.
It is important to understand that the implementation of this program is a private -
public partnership that requires the agencies involved to provide in -kind services.
Except for the City which will be responsible to fund the job coaching and job
development services thru a combination of current resources and grant funds.
This is a companion item to the Florida Development Disabilities Council Grant
Award.
