HomeMy WebLinkAboutLegislationCity of Miami Legislation Resolution CA.12 'Awe Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 08-00096 Final Action Date: A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, WITH ATTACHMENT(S), AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ACCEPT MATCHING FUNDS, IN THE AMOUNT OF $50,000, FROM THE CHILDREN'S TRUST, AS A CONDITION OF THE MIAMI NETWORK FOR INTEGRATION, COMPASSION AND EMPOWERMENT PROGRAM GRANT AWARD, PURSUANT TO RESOLUTION NO. 07-0641, ADOPTED NOVEMBER 9, 2007; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE THE NECESSARY DOCUMENTS TO IMPLEMENT THE ACCEPTANCE OF SAID MATCHING FUNDS. WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") has been awarded a Compassion Capital Demonstration Fund Program Grant ("Grant") from the United States ("U.S.") Department of Health and Human Services, in the amount of $500,000, for a three-year period, effective September 29, 2007 through September 29, 2010, for the funding of the Miami Network for Integration, Compassion and Empowerment ("NICE") Program, a capacity -building program for faith -based and community organizations ("FBCOs") in the community; and WHEREAS, the Miami NICE Program Grant will help FBCOs improve program effectiveness and organizational management, improve ability to access and manage funds from diverse sources, develop and train staff, expand the types and reach of social services programs, and develop promising collaborations among organizations dedicated to social service delivery; and WHEREAS, the City will partner with social service providers for the Miami NICE Program, including The Children's Trust, The Alliance for Human Services, Center on Non -Profit Effectiveness, Family and Children Faith Coalition of South Florida, Miami -Dade County Office of Strategic Business Management, and the United Way of Miami -Dade; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Resolution No. 07-0641, adopted November 9, 2007, the City Commission authorized the execution of an award package, including a Cooperative Agreement Between U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families Office of Community Services and the City, to accept the Grant and fund the Miami NICE Program; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Resolution No. 07-0641, adopted November 9,2007, the City Commission authorized the establishment of a special revenue fund for the appropriation of the Grant; and WHEREAS, matching funds in the amount of $50,000, are required from The Children's Trust as a condition of the Grant; and WHEREAS, it is appropriate for the City Manager to execute an award package, including a Grant Award Agreement, to accept the matching funds from the Children's Trust and transfer these funds into the special revenue fund established pursuant to Resolution No. 07-0641; City of Miami Page 1 of 2 Printed On: 2/4/2008 File Number: 08-00096 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The City Manager is authorized{1} to accept matching funds, in the amount of $50,000 from The Children's Trust, as a condition of the Miami NICE Program Grant award, pursuant to Resolution No. 07-0641, adopted November 9, 2007. Section 3. The City Manager is authorized{1} to execute the necessary documents to implement the acceptance of said matching funds. Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.{2} APPROVED AS TO FORM AND CORRECTNESS: JORGE F RNANDEZKAi, CITY A *:.` EY Footnotes: {1} The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by the City Attorney, including, but not limited to, those prescribed by applicable City Charter and Code provisions. {2} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted.
