Abety President & CEO County Attorneys Office Legal Counsel The ChildrensTrust May 8, 2007 To Whom It May Concern: This letter is in support of our collaborative application for funding for Miami NICE (the Network for Integration., Compassion and Empowerment) from the Compassion Capital Fund (CCF) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Children and Families Office of Community Services. As you know, all of our network partners (the City of Miami, Miami -Dade County, the Center for Non-profit Effectiveness, Family and Children Faith .Coalition, The Children's Trust, the Alliance for Human Services, and the United Way of Miami - Dade) have a history of working together in our community, as well as a shared goal of increasing the capacity of human • service organizations to more effectively meet their missions, On May 7, 2007, The Children's Trust board of directors voted to approve a $50,000 cash match contribution to the current Miami NICE application, which will be available contingent upon award of the federal funds. The Children's Trust is a dedicated source of revenue established by voter referendum in 2002, with the mission to improve the lives of all children and families in. Miami -Dade County by making strategic investments in their futures. As such, we currently. fund over 200. '.programs _serving children, youth and families throughout the county that focus on improving child . health, development and safety, as welt as parental and community responsibility on behalf of children. The majority of our funded organizations are community and faith -based. organizations. In our brief history of funding, we have noted a great .need.to bolster organizational capacity. For that reason, last year our board approved a $500,000 capacity -building fund specifically to assist our funded agencies with individual technical assistance and mini -grants to make improvements in a number of areas that' overlap with those covered within our partnership CCF application, such as leadership .development, . organizational development, program development, revenue development strategies, and community engagement. The .Children's Trust has an active calendar of group training topics, a 'vendor pool of organizational consultants established through a competitive. process, individual technical assistance provided by our .program, research/evaluation and fiscal staff.rriembers, and mini -grants for our providers based on a formal capacity needs assessment and organizational capacity priorities. Our President and. CEO, Modesto E. Abety, is in full support of this collaborative network application. Feel free to, contact him or myself if any further information is needed. We look forward to a .productive collaboration to improve the capacity of grassroots, faith -based and community organizations serving those most in need in our community. Sincerely, i 116 K.
