To Members of the City of 1 iami's REP Bd.
Dear Members:
I support Historic designation of the Little House at 3848 Little in Ye Little Wood with
great enthusiasm. The home was that of the Grove's second mayor, William Little and
his wonderfully talented wife, Nell; it is a marvelous representation of the arts and crafts
style of the early 1900s; built in 1902, it maintains a distinctive presence in a marvelously
singular neighborhood, Ye Little Wood, which is astoundingly intact. For these reasons,
1 ask you to consider historic designation for this very important structure.
Thank you for the important work you carry out at each meeting and throughout the
entire year. I am proud to say that 1 served on your board from 1983 thru 1987.
Thanks again.

Re: The Little House in Ye Little Wood
The Villagers have spent the last 40 years fighting for the preservation of historic venues
in South Florida such as the lovely Ye Little Wood and the houses therein. We see no
down side to providing the best protection possible to the very house built by the man
that gave this charming old nook in Coconut Grove its name. An individual Historical
Designation would go a long way to achieving this goal.
We urge you to grant this designation to the Little residence lest the "little nook where
peace will bide and hospitality" irrevocably turns into "the little nook which Rests In
Peace."
Sincerely, Silvia Licha

Re: The .Little House in Ye Little Wood
It has come to my attention that the home of William V. Little in Ye Little Wood is being
considered for historic designation by the City of Miami. This home is a wonderful
example of early Coconut Grove -style architecture. Unfortunately, few homes of this
Craftsman -style remain. Both Mr. and Mrs. Little were very prominent Coconut Grove
citizens. The people of the Grove recognized this by electing Mr. Little as their second
mayor.
The issue before you today is simple. Does the Little House meet the criteria for
designation? In my opinion it does and therefore should be designated. If access were
criteria for denying designation, very few of our major historic sites would be so
designated. I am sure the City would work with a landowner or architect to help them.
build an addition to the existing home that respects its historic integrity.
Thank you for your consideration.
