Appeal Update
A preliminary designation report was brought to the
Historic and Environmental Preservation Board on
.January 2, 2007. The Board voted unanimously to
instruct staff to prepare the final designation report.
The final designation report was brought to the HEP
Board on April 3, 2007. The Board voted
unanimously to designate the property as historic.
The Board voted to designate the property as
historic because it complied with several of the
criteria for designation, as set forth in Section 23-4,
including:
CRITERIA #1: The property is associated in a
significant way with the life of a person important
in the past;
CRITERIA #5: The property embodies those
distinguishing characteristics of an architectural
style, or period, or method of construction.
There were two issues which precluded staff from
initially offering a recommendation to designate.
Both issues were addressed during testimony given
at the designation hearing.
Access: The roads leading into Ye Little Wood are
private roads maintained by the residents, and a
keypad access gate prohibits vehicular access.
Residents testified at the hearing that the gates are
open two days a week for garbage pick up, and the
pedestrian gated entrance is left unlocked.
Single Designation vs" District: During research, it
became apparent that the area known as Ye Little
Wood had retained enough significance that it
should be a district. After designating the individual
property, the Board requested a Preliminary
Designation report for the district be prepared.
There are 31 residences in the subdivision. Over 14
residents showed up for the hearing, all were in
favor of both the individual designation and the
district designation.
