Re: Signs
As you know, my office has received well over 100 petitions complaining about two
signs on top of a S. Miami Avenue building. Thank you to you and to Peter Bockweg for
joining me at a neighborhood meeting August 21st, 2008 at the Palace Condo.
I would like to see legislation drafted as soon as possible regarding several aspects of the
City of Miami sign regulations.
1. I need your advice but my goal is to amend Article 16 section 1501.1 by deleting
the exception which allows Class II permit requests to be approved with no notice to
neighbors and neighborhood groups. (If I am incorrect with my references please correct
me immediately.)
Perhaps there should be notice to all neighborhood groups, condo associations and all
neighbors within 1,000 feet? I need your advice but my goal is to have the public fully
able to comment on applications affectingtheir quality of life.
2. In addition, I would like legislation drafted that amends the Major Use Special
Permit (MUSP) process to require all signage to be included in the original MUSP
application. If a developer/property owner does not know his/her tenant yet then the
applicant must use a sample signage typical by font, size, proportions and lighting to will
be installed. (Please use your typical language.) I want to see legislation that does not
allow any signage on MUSP recipients unless the public has had every opportunity to
review and respond.
I would like to see this legislation on either of the two September 2008 Commission
meetings and I may place a discussion of these issues on my Blue Pages.
Thank you.
