Environmentally -Friendly Management Guidelines
Mayor Manuel Diaz is advancing the City of Miami towards becoming an
environmentally aware and responsible city. Therefore, every operation within the City
is being evaluated to determine how to decrease negative impacts on the environment.
To be proactive and environmentally conscious the following guidelines are suggested
for the operation of your business.
• All products consumed or dispersed are evaluated for the impact on the
environment and practicable alternatives are developed;
• All vendors will provide trash and recycle receptacles;
• Items are recyclable, made of recycled materials, biodegradable, and/or
compostable;
• Plastic containers are labeled with a 1, 2, or 3, which are the plastic items that are
considered recyclable;
• No Styrofoam is used;
• All waste that is capable of being recycled, is (aluminum or tin cans, glass
containers, plastic bottles (1, 2, or 3); cardboard, milk or juice boxes, and paper;
• Any unnecessary products, such as straws, lids, and excess packaging will be
avoided;
• Individual condiments packets will be avoided, instead large condiment
dispensers should be used;
• Disposable silverware will not be dispersed in a wrapped set, but instead provided
separately to take when needed;
• Serving trays will not be covered with a disposable liner;
• Cleaning products used will be labeled with the "Green Seal", meaning having
neutral pH (as close to 7.0 as possible) and highly concentrated (at least 50-65%)
to reduce empty bottles;
• Food and beverage containers will be similar to those recommended in the table
below;
• Food wrappers will be used only when needed and limited to one layer, such as
only aluminum foil or wax paper
• Items distributed in vending machines will contain limited packing materials;
• Vending machines will be programmed to raise temperatures during closed hours
to conserve electricity;
• Vendors will attend a training on "green" practices
