UPON HIS UNTIMELY DEATH. WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") grieves the untimely death of Victor de Yurre, Sr.; and WHEREAS, Victor de Yurre, Sr. was 86 years old and was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend who gave many years of love and kindness to those he touched; and WHEREAS, Victor de Yurre, Sr., with great courage and bravery, assisted many opponents of the Castro regime, seeking support for their actions or refuge from the Cuban security forces; and WHEREAS, Victor de Yurre, Sr. was instrumental in the escape of Carlos Alberto Montaner from prison and subsequent asylum in the embassy of Honduras, and upon his arrival into exile, continued to fight tirelessly to achieve freedom for his homeland and was a regular commentator on local radio in the early 1960's; and WHEREAS, Victor de Yurre, Sr., who left this world a better place, died in October, 2007, leaving behind a legacy of love and passion for his family and homeland. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The authorities of the City of Miami, in the State of Florida, on behalf of our citizens, pause in our official deliberations to express our deepest sympathy to his wife, Zoila; his son Victor, an attorney and former commissioner of the City of Miami; her daughter Chiqui; their grandchildren, as well as other bereaved family, colleagues and friends, and to record for posterity this tribute to the memory of Victor de Yurre, Sr., a loving and kind human being who contributed to this community and possessed a contagious passion for freedom. Section 2. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.{1} MANUEL A.
