Dire"tor City Manager If using or receiving cppital funds Grants N / Pr Pa VP 1 nf Subject: Resolution authorizing amendment to agreement with FIU in connection with its use of the Orange Bowl On June 14, 2007, the City Commission adopted Resolution No. 07-0327 authorizing the City Manager to execute an agreement with Florida International University ("FIU") for the staging of their 2007 FIU Football Season at the Miami Orange Bowl, The agreement authorized the issuance of up to 750 comp tickets, Due to the large capacity of the Orange Bowl, FIU has proffered to the Miami -Dade County School Board several comp passes each game in order to provide an opportunity for local school children to attend the games. Additionally, in order to increase interest in its football program, they have provided comp tickets to those individuals that purchase season tickets for its 2008 football season. At this time, FIU is requesting that the ticket surcharge be waived so that it may continue to encourage these activities. The estimated amount of the ticket surcharge to be waived would result in a loss of revenue of approximately $11,000. The City will continue to benefit from the increased attendance at games based on revenues it earns from concessions and parking. FIU has further requested the City partner with them in the staging of the last college football garne at the Orange Bowl on December 1, 2007. The intent is to provide an opportunity to attend the event to experience the magic of the Orange Bowl one last time through the distribution of additional free passes. As this will result in increased attendance, there will be a need to provide additional City services such as police, fire and clean-up. It is recommended that the City Commission approve the co -sponsoring of the December l s` event as a thank you to the community for its support through the years by providing a credit to FIU against monies due to the City in an amount not to exceed $10,000 to offset costs associated with the additional City services.
