Subject: Resolution accepting and appropriating a grant award of $441,063.00 from the U.S.
Department of Justice to fund the City of Miami Police "Solving Cold Cases with DNA" Program
Purpose of Item:
It is respectfully recommended that the Honorable Mayor and the City Commission adopt the attached
resolution authorizing the City Manager to accept and appropriate an award in an amount not to
exceed $441,063.00 from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs to fund the City
of Miami Police "Solving Cold Cases with DNA" Program. Further authorizing the City Manager to
execute the grant agreement, and any necessary documents for the administration of the grant. No
match is required by the funder.
Background Information:
On September 1.2, 2007 the City of Miami Police 'Department was noticed that it was awarded
$441,063.00 by the U.S. Department ofJustice, Office of Justice Programs to fund the "Solving Cold
Cases with DNA" program. This program will expand and enhance current City of Miami Police
efforts of using DNA samples collected at crime scenes to help solve unsolved homicide cases.
