Program Summary (Limit to 100 words): The City of Miami Department of Parks and Recreation with The Heart of Our Parks program will provide year-round, out of school services. The Heart of Our Parks is a model of exceptional out - of -school programs, with academic components, physical fitness, health, family outreach and field trips. With a dedicated Parks staff, Certified Teachers and partners including the Miami Museum of Science & Planetarium and Arts for Learning, the Heart of Our Parks is a model of exceptional out - of -school programs, that encompasses academic components, physical fitness, health, family outreach and field trips. Youth are offered an array of opportunities -to read, paint, dance, swim, run, and learn a little bit about the world around them, and the cultures right next door. 2. Target Population (Include the ages and characteristics, such as disabilities): The Program will serve youth ages 7 to 12 of both genders, predominantly African -American and Hispanic, fron in neighborhoods throughout the City of Miami including Allapattah, Coral Way, Model City, and Overtown, fron in the Superintendent's Zone in need of improvement 3. The curriculum will include experiences such as dramatic expression, role playing, research projects, educational games, and community service activities. The theme related projects will be integrated with the work of the different components of the program, so as to assure cohesiveness in programming services. Students will meet weekly with College Interns following the RESPECT Curriculum. Performance Measure: Provider shall measure outcome achievement and report on a basis as outlined in Attachment C of this contract. Summer Outcomes Outcome Indicators Measurement Tool Data Collection & Comments During the summer program, all children will be pre -tested within one week of enrollment in the program. Post-tests will be conducted during the last two weeks of the summer program. Data will be reported as outlined in Attachment C. It is expected that all participants will be pre- tested, and all participants in attendance the last two weeks of the program will be post -tested. It is expected that all participants will complete a pre -test; all participants in attendance in December will complete a mid -point reading test; and all participants in attendance in May will complete a post-test. 5. Teacher (2) Current certification issued by Florida Dept. of Education Instructor creates learning materials geared towards student physical ability and uses physical educational strategies to facilitate learning. PT Recreation Aides Some (6 months - 2 years) experience in recreational activities or graduation from high school or its equivalent is desirable. Plans, organizes and instructs children or adults in various recreational or sports activities. Serves as instructor/ supervisor of recreational activity. Keeps activity and attendance reports.
