HomeMy WebLinkAboutLegislationPocket /vhc City of Miami Legislation Resolution City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 07-01333 Final Action Date: A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION URGING ITS APPROVAL BY THE MIAMI STREET CODESIGNATION REVIEW COMMITTEE OF THE CODESIGNATION OF SOUTHWEST 21 ST AVENUE FROM SOUTHWEST 16TH STREET TO SOUTHWEST 19TH STREET, MIAMI, FLORIDA, AS "EMILIO ARECHAEDERRA WAY." WHEREAS, Emilio Arechaederra was born in Havana, Cuba on August 3, 1910; and WHEREAS, Emilio participated in competitive sports and developed a passion for athletic activities to which he later devoted his entire professional life; and WHEREAS, he pursued a career in the press and became a sports writer with daily columns in several newspapers, and became a radio commentator covering professional baseball; and WHEREAS, he left Cuba in 1960 and lived in New York and then in Miami continuing to recognize the importance of amateur sports as a vehicle to unite and heal an exiled community; and WHEREAS, he received numerous awards for his contributions including a key to the City of New York City and several recognitions for his work in Miami with La Liga Cubana de Softball; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF. MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The Miami City Commission urges its approval by the Miami Street Codesignation Review Committee of the codesignation of Southwest 21 st Avenue from Southwest 16th Street to Southwest 19th Street, Miami, Florida, as "Emilio Arechaederra Way. Section 2. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.{1} APPROVED AS TO FORM AND CORRECTNESS JORGE L.
