HomeMy WebLinkAboutLegislationCity of Miami Legislation Resolution City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamiaev.com File Number: 07-01239 Final Action Date: A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION ESTABLISHING A NEW SPECIAL REVENUE FUND ENTITLED: "ASSISTANCE TO FIREFIGHTERS GRANT PROGRAM -FIRE PREVENTION AND SAFETY," AND APPROPRIATING FUNDS FOR THE OPERATION OF SAME, TO PURCHASE EQUIPMENT THAT WILL OFFER THE FIRE INVESTIGATION UNIT THE APPROPRIATE TOOLS AND TECHNOLOGICAL CAPABILITY TO CONDUCT A THOROUGH FIRE INVESTIGATION, IN THE AMOUNT OF $159,534, CONSISTING OF A GRANT AWARDED BY THE FEDERAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY, UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY, GRANTS MANAGEMENT BRANCH, WITH A REQUIRED MATCHING FUND FROM THE CITY OF MIAMI ("MIAMI"),. IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $39,884, FOR A TOTAL GRANT AMOUNT OF $199,418; ALLOCATING THE CITY'S REQUIRED MATCHING FUNDS, FROM ACCOUNT NO. 40-B72804-05-1105-EQUIPMENT-181000, FOR THE PERIOD BEGINNING JULY 27, 2007 THROUGH JULY 26, 2008; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE THE NECESSARY DOCUMENTS TO IMPLEMENT THE ACCEPTANCE OF AND COMPLIANCE OF SAID GRANT. WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") has been awarded a grant, in the amount of $159,534, for the period beginning July 27, 2007, from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, United States Department of Homeland Security, Grants Management Branch, through July 26, 2008; and WHEREAS, matching funds from the City, in the amount of $39,884, are required as a condition of said grant, and are available from the City's Account No. 40-B72804-05-1105-Equipment-181000; and WHEREAS, as stipulated in the grant award, the Department of Fire -Rescue will use said funds for equipment, supplies and training for the Fire Investigation Unit to have the appropriate tools and technological capability to conduct a thorough investigation; and WHEREAS, these tools and equipment will ensure that every Arson Investigator is fully prepared for the variety of investigation scenes they will encounter; and • WHEREAS,it is appropriate for the City Commission to authorize the City Manager to accept said grant, to execute any necessary documents to implement and to comply with said grant, and for the appropriation of said grant award; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. The following new Special Revenue Fund is established and resources are appropriated as described below: FUND TITLE: Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program Fire Prevention and Safety RESOURCES: Federal Emergency Management Agency United States Homeland Security, Grants Branch City Matching Grant from Account No. 40-B72804-05-105 Equipment-181000 APPROPRIATIONS: $ 159,534 $ 39,884 $ 199,418 Section 3. This appropriation is contingent upon final grant approval by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, United States Homeland Security, Grants Management Branch and the City Manager's acceptance thereof. Section 4. The City Manager is authorized{1} to execute the necessary documents, to implement acceptance of and compliance of said grant. Section 5. F RNANDEZ Kt�� CITY A TOI'NEY Footnotes: {1} The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City Charter and Code provisions. {2} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted.
