HomeMy WebLinkAboutLegislationCity of Miami Legislation Resolution City Hall. 3500 Pan American - Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 07-01258 Final Action Date: A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION DESIGNATING THE CITY OF JACMEL, HAITI, AS A "SISTER CITY" TO THE CITY OF MIAMI ("CITY"), THROUGH THE SISTER CITIES PROGRAM; DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO FOLLOW SUCH ADMINISTRATIVE PROCEDURES AS MAY BE IN PLACE TO ALLOW THE CITY OF JACMEL, HAITI, TO PARTICIPATE IN THE ACQUISITION OF CITY -OWNED SURPLUS PROPERTY DISPOSED OF BY THE CITY IN ACCORDANCE WITH SECTION 18-82 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA, AS AMENDED. WHEREAS, common ties of mutual interest exist between the City of Jacmel, Haiti and the City of Miami ("City") in the areas of education, arts and culture, tourism and trade; and WHEREAS, the exchange of said interests and cultures by the mutual establishment of a "Sister City" relationship with Jacmel, Haiti, will enhance the City and its citizens; and WHEREAS, as the cultural and economic "Gateway to the Americas," the City understands the importance of establishing good relations with Haiti and values a partnership with Jacmel, Haiti to create new economic and cultural opportunities of mutual benefit; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The city of Jacmel, Haiti, is designated as a "Sister City" to the City, through the Sister Cities Program. Section 3. The City Manager is directed to follow such administrative procedures as may be in place to allow the City of Jacmel, Haiti, to participate in the acquisition of City -owned surplus property disposed of by the City in accordance with Section 18-82 of the Code of the City of Miami, Florida, as amended.
