Question 6
What aspect of your life an,dJo.r w-ork experieenca has prapare,d you for
members:hip on the GIP?
In 1989 I started my professional career as an Assistant State Attorney here in
Miami -Dade County working for Janet Reno. As a Prosecutor 1 worked hand ihand with
many Police Officers from The City of Miami and other jurisdictions. Since leaving the State
Attorney's Office in 1992, I have been self-employed as a Criminal Defense Attorney
primarily in State Court at the Richard E. Gerstein, Metropolitan Justice Building. 1 have
tried over 125 criminal jury trials to Verdict as both a Prosecutor and as a Defender. My
career brings me in contact with numerous Police Officers and I have had the opportunity
to learn many aspects of proper police procedure and professional standards. I believe that
my 18 years of dealing with Police Officers from the crime scene to the jury trial, gives me
unique expertise that will be of benefit to the Panel.
Question 7
Why do you wish to serve on the CIP?
have lived in the City of Miami for 21 years. I believe a City is only as strong as the
people who work for it. I believe my experience can help make our City a stranger more
vibrant place to live. By giving the citizens a public independent investigative crganization
we show the community that the City Government is open to the people for the benefit of
the public, and not a shadowy organization trying to hide its faults behind closed doors.
Question 8
Organizations and Affiliations.
- Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers
- Florida Bar, Traffic Court Rules Committee
- Dade County Bar Association, Criminal Court Committee
- Dade County Bar Association, Professionalism Committee
- League of Prosecutors
