Lighting at Lummus Park. Estimated Cost: Lummus Park will be the location where we will have the basketball wheelchair sports program. The program will take place in the evening hours and court does not have any lighting. We anticipate starting the program as soon as construction of the court is finished. We currently have planned to have practices on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. $ 30,000.00 2. Programming for the Blind & Visually Impaired $ 20,000.00 We would like to expand our recreational opportunities to individuals with visual impairments. We have contacted, Miami Lighthouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired to collaborate and establish the best suitable programs that of great need. Collaboratively we've come up with some projects that will provide programming to this population, some ideas we've discussed are, improving our current computer lab to make it more accessible to those with visual difficulties, we'd also like to establish a Tandem Bike Program that will provide much need leisure and recreational opportunites. These bikes would be used invarious parks and nature trails in the city. Our therapeatuic recreational specialist will spear head this program. 3. Swimming Projram for Persons with Disabilities $ 27,315.00 We would like to establish for next summer swimming classes for people with disabilities in two of our parks. We hope to get a pool in the north end of the City of Miami limits and one in the south end. The program goes in line with Parks and Recreation Departments initiative to teach everyone in the City of Miami to swim. We would like purchase any equipment and supplies necessary to start the program (i.e., lifts to access the pools, hamess to keep participants afloat in the pool, any other supplies necessary to start the program). 4. Tennis Wheelchair for Children $ 27,315.00 We would like to add to our existing wheel sports program to include wheel chair tennis for children 10 and under. We hope to start with about 6 children. The coach of the team will be Noel Cubela of Bryan Park. Our hopes is that the team will start young and become competitive as soon as they are ready. We would like to purchase the equipment and supplies necessary to start the program (i.e., wheel chairs, instructional materials, uniforms, etc.) Total Estsimated Cost (including required match) $ 104,630.00
