HomeMy WebLinkAboutSubmittal-Petition to Retain Current City of Miami Marina RatesPETITION TO RETAIN CURRENT CITY OF MIAMI MARINA
RATES
It is respectfully requested that the current rates at the city marina's be retained. It
is also requested the the elimination of a discount for City of Miami residents be
withdrawn. The letter dated September 12, 2007 to the City of Miami from M. Butler, L.
Butler and M. Niemeyer, in response to the letter from the City if Miami to the marina
residents dated July 22, 2007 canceling the discount to city residents, demonstrated that
the 42% proposed increase was unjustified for the following reasons:
• The City of Miami is ineligible for FIND Grants until it spends 100% of marina
income BEFORE applying for the proposed grant. The elimination of the current
discount is therefore unnecessary if the city is not eligible.
• If the City of Miami should want to apply for FIND Grand monies, a new set of
rates should be established for all boat owners based upon income not exceeding
expenses. In doing this, it will satisfy both rules of the grant.
• The proposed rate increase is unnecessary to offset the increasing operation and
capital costs. The current rates even if applied to all of the residents of the marina
should cover the rising cost of doing business.
• Marina income should be retained for marina expenses.
We are respectfully submitting the following people who are in support of the
above proposed request for review.
