Purpose of Item:

It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached Resolution establishing a
new special revenue fund entitled "FY 2007 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG)
Program", authorizing the City Manager to accept said grant from the United States Department of
Justice, Office of Justice Programs in the amount of $646,408. There are no matching funds required
of the City of Miami. The grant funding period is from October 1, 2006 through September 30, 2010;
with an award a date of August 27, 2007 and a grant expiration date of September 30, 2010.
Background Information:
The Police Department plans to utilize the 2007 Justice Assistance Grant Funds to implement the
following nine (9) law enforcement projects:
1) Training Unit Electronic Classroom Project 6) Police Helicopter Enhancement Project
2) Motorcycle Radio Improvement Project 7) Community Policing Problem Solving Initiative
3) Investigative Technical Support Project 8) Narcotics Investigative Support Equipment Project
4) Mobile Display Terminal (MDT) Project 9) Automated Vessel Tracking Systems Project
5) License Plate Reader Project
