SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT (See instruction on reverse) The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program (JAG) allows states, tribes, and local governments to support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime based on the: own Iota) needs and conditions. Grant funds can be used for state and local initiatives, technical assistance, training, personnel, equipment, supplies,.contractual support, and information systems for criminal justice for any one or more of the following purpose areas: 1) law enforcement programs; 2) prosecution and court programs; 3) prevention and education programs; 4) corrections and community corrections programs; 5) drug treatment programs; and 6) planning, evaluation, and technology improvement programs. OJP FORM 4000/2 (REV. 4-88) The Miami City Police Department plans to utilize the 2007 Justice Assistance Grant Funds to implement the following nine law enforcement projS«s: Il 1) Training Unit Electronic Classroom Project - Creation of a computer based training classroom to enhance instruction for Miami Police Officers. 2) Motorcycle Radio Improvement Project - Purchase thirty-three (33) P25 police motorcycle radios for the current motorcycle fleet. 3) Investigative Technical Support Project - Purchase wireless covert audio and vidco transmission equipment to cnhancc officer safety and evidence gathering capability. 4) Mobile Display Terminal (MDT) Project - Provide MDTs to new officcrsbeing trained in the field to acclimate them to technology earlier in the training process. 5) License Plate Reader Project - Purchase two (2) license plate readers to cnhancc the capability of the department to identify stolen and wanted vehicles, apprehend offenders, and enforce traffic violations. • 6) Poiice Helicopter Enhancement Project - Purchase and install an acro filler kit to prevent helicopter engine deterioration and increase the longevity of the equipment. 7) Community Policing Problem Solving Initiative - Implementation of two (2) community policing crime reduction protects utilizing the Scanning, Assessment, Rcsponsc and Analysis (S.A.R.A.) Model. 8) Narcotics Investigative Support Equipment Project - Purchase covert surveillance technology to be deployed by "street level" narcotics officers r to build narcotics cases that result in prosecution and conviction of street IevcJ' narcotics suppliers. 9) Automated Vessel Tracking Systems Project - Purchase automated trackingi and location systems for police marine vessels to enhance safety and deployment.
