HomeMy WebLinkAboutSummary FormDate: 6/21/2007 AGENDA ITEM SUMMARY FORM FILE ID: 7 "0 o �f Requesting Department: Community Development Commission Meeting Date: 07/ /2007 District Impacted: Type: ® Resolution ❑ Ordinance ❑ Emergency Ordinance ❑ Discussion Item 0 Other Subject: EXTENDING COMMENCEMENT DATES FOR CONSTRUCTION OF MULTI FAMILY HOMES- HABITAT FOR HUMANITY GRANTING TO HABITAT FOR HUMANITY OF GREATER MIAMI, INC.: (1) AN EXTENSION OF TIME, UNTIL DECEMBER 31, 2007, IN WHICH TO COMMENCE CONSTRUCTION ON THE PROPERTIES LOCATED AT 7830 NORTHWEST MIAMI PLACE, 7818 NORTHWEST MIAMI PLACE AND 6950 NORTHWEST 4TH AVENUE, MIAMI, FLORIDA (THE "PROPERTIES"), AND (2) AUTHORIZATION FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF MULTIFAMILY HOMES ON SAID PROPERTIES; STATING THE INTENTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION RELATED TO THE CONVEYANCE OF TITLE TO THE PROPERTIES; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE MODIFICATIONS TO THE DEEDS THAT CONVEYED THE PROPERTIES FROM THE CITY OF MIAMI TO HABITAT FOR HUMANITY, AND ALL NECESSARY OTHER DOCUMENTS, FOR SAID PURPOSE. Purpose of Item: Background Information: Pursuant to Resolution No. 05-0228, adopted April 14, 2005, the City Commission approved the conveyance, with title reverter provisions, of nine (9) vacant parcels of land to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Miami, Inc. ("Habitat"), for the development of affordable housing for eligible low income and moderate income persons. On June 15, 2006, the City of Miami ("City") transferred such properties to Habitat requiring that construction commence by June 15, 2007, and be completed by December 15, 2008. Habitat is requesting an extension of the deadline to commence construction on the properties located at 7830 Northwest Miami Place, 7818 Northwest Miami Place and 6950 Northwest ten Avenue, Miami, Florida (the "Properties"), from June 15, 2007 to December 31, 2007, because Habitat is changing the utilization of the properties from single family to multi -family and it will take additional time to secure building permits for an increase in the number of housing units. It is in the best interest of the City to allow for the maximum number of housing units for the Properties under current zoning regulations. The Administration recommends: (1) granting to Habitat an extension of time, until December 31, 2007, to commence construction on the sites located at 7830 Northwest Miami Place, 7818 Northwest Miami Place and 6950 Northwest 4u' Avenue, Miami, Florida, and (2) authorizing the construction of multifamily homes on the Properties, with a minimum of two houses per lot.
