HomeMy WebLinkAboutLegislationCity of Miami Legislation Resolution City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number; 07-00573 Final Action Date: A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DISTRIBUTE FUNDS, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $162,171, FROM THE TREE TRUST FUND; AUTHORIZING THE ALLOCATION OF SAID FUNDS, TO VARIOUS COMMUNITY BASED ORGANIZATIONS ("CBOS"), AS STATED HEREIN, FOR THE PURPOSE OF PLANTING TREES ON CERTAIN PUBLIC RIGHTS OF WAY IN THE CITY OF MIAMI ("CITY"), WITH SEVERAL CITY DEPARTMENTS COORDINATING SERVICES WITH SAID CBOS, AS STATED HEREIN. WHEREAS, on March 22, 2007, the City Commission adopted Ordinance No. 12903, which established procedures for the protection, planting and removal of trees in the City of Miami ("City"); and WHEREAS, the City has developed a comprehensive Tree Master Plan that specifically states that the City will "develop public/private partnerships to maximize and leverage community resources and funding for the benefit of the enhancement of the City tree canopy;" and WHEREAS, the City developed a grants process and reached out to several Community Based Organizations ("CBO's") that have experience in tree planting in the City, requesting that they join in a collaborative tree planting effort; and WHEREAS, the five CBO's that responded and that are being recommended for funding are: Citizens for a Better South Florida, Roots in the City, the Treeman Trust, Treemendous and Green Leaves; and WHEREAS, the five CBO's will plant a minimum of 517 trees between them; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The City Manager is authorized {1} to distribute funds, in an amount not to exceed $162,171, from the Tree Trust Fund, to the CBO's as listed below, for the purpose of planting trees on certain public rights of way in the City: Citizens for a Better South Florida $38,409 Roots in the City (through St. John CDC as a fiscal agent) $25,000 Treeman Trust $40,262 Treemendous $31,000 Green Leaves $27,500 City of Miami Page 1 of 2 Printed On: 5/30/2007 File Number. 07-00573 Section 3. The City's Department of Public Works will oversee the tree plantings to ensure compliance with all local and state guidelines and practices. Section 4. The City's Department of Neighborhood Enhancement Team will facilitate communication between the CBO's and the communities where plantings will take place. Section 5. The City's Office of Grants Administration will oversee the distribution of the funds in collaboration with the aforementioned City departments. Section 6. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.{2} APPR• ED AS TO FORM AND CORRECTNESS:C/ JORGE L. FE CITY A TOR NANDEZ EY Footnotes: (1) The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City Charter and Code provisions. {2} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted.
