Subject: Purchase of Hand Held Lidar Speed Measuring Devices
Purpose of Item:
A Resolution of the Miami City Commission approving the purchases of Hand Held Lidar Speed
Measuring Devices, UltraLyte LRB Model, from Laser Technology, on an as needed, when needed
contractual basis, utilizing an existing State of South Carolina Contract No. 06-S7241, effective
through July 16, 2011, and any extensions or replacement contracts by the State of South Carolina,
allocating funds from various user departments, subject to availability of funds and budgetary
approval at the time of need.
Background Information:
The Police Department's Traffic Enforcement Unit has a need to purchase laser guns to replace and
upgrade the old radar guns currently being used. The LIDAR Speed Measuring Devices, UltraLyte
LRB Model, will be used to measure the speed and distance of vehicles. These devices are more
accurate and have better speed verification for presentations in court.
