HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-07-0293City of Miami Legislation Resolution: R-07-0293 City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 07-00726 Final Action Date: 5/24/2007 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION EXPRESSING SUPPORT OF THE LETTER SENT TO THE UNITED STATES SENATE APPROPRIATIONS COMMITTEE, BY THE MAJORITY OF THE UNITED STATES SENATORS, REJECTING THE ADMINISTRATION'S RECOMMENDED TWENTY PERCENT (20%) CUTS TO THE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT PROGRAM, AND ASKING FOR AN INCREASE IN THE LEVEL OF FUNDING FROM $3.9 BILLION TO $4.1 BILLION, FOR FISCAL YEAR 2008; DIRECTING THE CITY OF MIAMI'S LOBBYING TEAM TO WORK IN SUPPORT OF THESE REQUESTS; URGING PRESIDENT GEORGE W. BUSH AND THE MEMBERS OF THE UNITED STATES CONGRESS TO SUPPORT THE SAME; DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE OFFICIALS DESIGNATED HEREIN. BE IT RESOLVED, BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA; Section 1. The Miami City Commission expresses its support of the letter sent to the United States Senate Appropriations Committee, by the majority of the United States Senators, rejecting the Administration's recommended twenty percent (20%) cuts to the Community Development Block Grant Program, and asking for an increase in the level of funding from $3.9 billion to $4.1 billion for Fiscal Year 2008. Section 2. The City of Miami's lobbying team is directed to work in support of these requests. Section 3. The Miami City Commission urges President George W. Bush and the members of the United States Congress to support the same. Section 4. The City Clerk is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to the President, the Senate Majority Leader, the Speaker of the House of Representatives and all the members of the United States Congress. Section 5. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.{1} Footnotes: {1} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
