The Equal Opportunity Advisory Board was created to review and recommend to the City Commission
the adoption of amendments/revisions to the City's affirmative action plan. The board also reviews
employment policies and practices of the City and makes recommendations to the Department of Human
Resources.
Eleven (11) appointments are required at this time:
• Chairman Gonzalez has two (2) nominations for seats currently held by:
1. Vacancy (due to the resignation of Albena Sumner).*
2. Miriam Urra, incumbent and whose term expires on May 10, 2007, has
exceeded the number of allowed absences (5 in 2006) and would require a
4/5ths waiver of attendance.
• Vice Chairman Sanchez has two (2) nominations for seats currently held by:
1. Sam Mason, incumbent, whose term expired April 5, 2007.
2. Rebeca Alvarez -Mena, incumbent, has exceeded the number of allowed
absences (3 consecutive absences in 2007) and would require a 4/5ths waiver
of attendance.
• Commissioner Regalado has two (2) nominations for seats currently held by:
1. Aurelus Dorvil, incumbent, whose term expired May 10, 2007.
2. Christino Alvarado, incumbent and whose term expires May 10, 2007, has
exceeded the number of allowed absences (5 in 2006) and would require a
4/5ths waiver of attendance.
• Commissioner Spence -Jones has one (1) nomination for a seat currently held by:
1. Charles J. Flowers, incumbent, whose term expired April 6, 2007.
• The Commission -at -Large has four (4) confirmations:
1. Maria Bao as the representative of AFSCME Local 1907.
2. Viona Brown as the representative of the Fraternal Order of Police.
3. Louis Marshall III as the representative of the Miami Association of Fire
Fighters.
4. Shad Fields as the representative of AFSCME Local 871.
For your convenience, we are including a copy of the current membership of said board. By copy
of this memorandum, we are requesting the Agenda Office to place this issue on the May 10, 2007
Commission agenda. *This matter was deferred from the December 14, 2006 and February 8,
2007 Commission meetings.
