We are ih receipt of correspondence from Mr. Lester Sofa, Supervisor of Elections for
Miami -Dade County, requesting that we change the date of our 2007 runoff Election
from November 13, 2007 to November 20, 2007. ('Exhibit A)
As stated in the City of Miami Charter Sec. 7, "A general municipal election for the
mayor and city commissioners shall be held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in
November: in odd -numbered years. A runoff election for the mayor and city
commissioner'sshall be held on the second "Tuesday after the first Monday in November
in odd -numbered years. The 11 immi-Dade County Supervisor of Elections is requesting
that we change the date of our scheduled 2007 Runoff Election from November 13, 2007.
to November 20, 2007,
Changing the date of the Runoff Election allows Miami -Dade County Elections
Department to ensure a thorough, complete and accurate election administration in
allowing time to complete processing the General Election, updating voter registration
records, testing voting systems, printing and mailing absentee ballots, and would also
allow the City of Miarni to align the election with the ;elections of other municipalities
and reduce elections: costs. Pursuant to Florida Statute 100.3605 — Conduct of municipal
elections, -- "(2) The governing body of a municipality may, by ordinance, change the
dates for qualifying and for the election of members of the governing body of the
municipality and provide for the orderly transition of office resulting from such date
changes."
Also provided are estimated costs for a stand-alone General Election and a possible
Runoff Election with and without optical scanning of ballots, and a General Election if
held on the .same day as a county -wide, should such an election be called.(Exhibit B) On
