Subject: Resolution Authorizing the submission of an application to Preserve America
Purpose of Item:
It is recommended that the Honorable Mayor and City Commission approve this resolution
authorizing the City Manager to submit an application to Preserve America so that the City of Miami
may become designated as a Preserve America Community. This resolution is a prerequisite of
Preserve America and must be approved prior to the application process.
Background Information:
Preserve America is a White House initiative developed in cooperation with the Advisory Council on
Historic Preservation, the US Department of the Interior and the US Department of Commerce. The
goals of this initiative are to share knowledge about our Nation's past, strengthen regional identities
and local pride, increase local participation in preserving the country's cultural and natural heritage
assets and to support economic vitality of communities. This initiative is compatible with the City's
interest and goals related to historic preservation. Being designated as a Preserve America
Community will improve the city's ability to promote its historical resources.
