It is respectfully recommended that the Honorable Mayor and City Commission adopt the attached
Resolution authorizing the City Manager to apply for a grant to the Department of Agriculture
Division of Forestry for the purposes of securing funding to create a Mini -Hammock at Kennedy
Park,
Background Information:
The Department of Agriculture, Division of Forestry announced a funding opportunity on January 16,
2007. The Department of Parks and Recreations wishes to apply for said grant to secure funding for a
mini -hammock at Kennedy Park. Said Mini -Hammock will be used for educational purposes for all
citizens of the City of Miami and will include trails and signage discussing the various vegetation
found in a tropical hammock. Said grant funding requires a 50% match of the program cost of
$50,000, or $25,000 which will be allocated from in -kind volunteer services and salaries.
